• Takes million of years to make
• Provides 84 of our energy
• Natural Gas, Coal, Petroleum Oil

Natural Gas

• Used in heating and cooking (propane, methane
  gas)
• Comes from the burned remains of marine organisms
  which produced gas. Gas trapped by sands
  overtime.
• Estimated to run out in 2075

Coal

• Used to make electricity
• Comes from the remains of plants
• Expected to run out in 77 years

Petroleum Oil

• Used to make gasoline, plastics, and paints
• Comes from the remains of marine organisms
• Estimated to run out in 47 years

Negative Effects of using Fossil Fuels

• Hurts the environment (mining)
• Creates air pollution (smog and acid rain)
• Resources are running out and getting expensive

• Hydroelectric Power
• comes from the use of water. As water falls,
  energy is created.
• No air pollution, but can damage the environment
  through the building of dams

  when the wind blows hard enough to turn the
  windmills

• Very expensive to produce large amounts of energy
