NOTES
  • This is a sample brief only and does not need to
be copied verbatim. It does, however, reflect
all items that INSURV inspectors need to see as
part of the AD/SD DTE brief in order to ensure
there are few, if any, questions prior to
commencing the exercise. Please do not omit any
    required slides as noted.
  • This is designed for ships that will conduct both
Area Defense and Self Defense. Ships performing
SD only will need to tailor accordingly.

DTE Sequence
Required slide
  • A/C vectored to range IAW AREPS, 30,000 ft
  • A/C turns inbound and will be manually dropped.
  • A/C detected and engaged by SM2 by doctrine at
    max range.
  • No track refresh rate change (ex. TACSIG) during
    detection phase, no bypasses
  • Each illuminator will be downed upon successful
    engagement.
  • Upon completion of AD DTE, A/C to descend to
300ft _at_ 40nm and track manually dropped, then
    commence SD DTE
  • Radar contact, then engagement by GWS, ESSM, and
    CIWS
  • Upon completion of the first SD run, the A/C will
be vectored out to approx 15nm and engaged again
until all weapon systems (and MWC, if applicable)
    have been demonstrated. (provide detailed
explanation of your run sequence plan)
  • (Ensure a copy of AREPS report is available to
    Senior C5 Inspector at brief)
  • (Tailor the sequence of events to best suit your
    ships capabilities and locale.)
  • (It is generally a good idea to include a screen
shot of OPAREA and anticipated ships maneuvering
    to include a/c radials)

Procedure
Required slide
  • Include any specific ship procedures here.
  • Include which ship radials you expect engagements
to occur on, including what weapon systems you

Other Notes
Required slide
  • Operators will record
  • AAWC IFF Detection Range
  • ASTAC UHF Comms Loss/Gain and TACAN Range
  • RSC Radar Detection Ranges
  • MSS Illuminator assigned for each SM
    engagement, Range of each engagement
  • MT 51 of Rounds Expended
  • CIWS of Rounds Expended and First Detect
Range (and obtain PASS data printout for WP
    inspector if requested)
  • Comms with A/C will be placed in an overhead
speaker by AIC for INSURV inspector.
  • Internal CIC net (ex. Net 15) will be placed on a
speaker near either the TAO, CICWO, AAWC, or
    radar operator console
  • Each evolution will commence and complete upon
indication from the Senior C5 Inspector that
INSURV is ready and has seen everything they
    need.

16
Other Notes (continued)
Required slide

10nm during outbound (if a/c is to check-in and
mark-on-top prior to starting this event) or
    inbound leg.
  • Aircraft is carry an I (or J, etc) band EW pod
    and will activate by 100nm.
  • EW Operator will report threat over internal CIC
net when acquired and when correlated to track.
INSURV inspectors will then verify. When
requested by INSURV, AIC will ask pilot to kick
to different pod frequency. Both sides of SLQ-32
will be verified during SD DTE runs.
