George Orwell (Eric Arthur Blair)

• Born 1903 in India which was then part of the
  British Empire
• Grew up in a middle-class family
• Went to a private school in Sussex, England at
  eight years old and then went to Eaton at
  thirteen
• Instead of going on to university, Orwell (Blair)
  eventually trained with the Indian Imperial
  Police in Burma
• He always knew he would be a writer and had a
  passion for English Literature.
