Charles Dickens Facts

• Charles Dickens was born in Portsmouth, England
  in 1812.
• He was one of 8 children.
• When he was 12 his father was arrested and
  Charles had to work in a shoe factory.
• Some of the main characters that Dickens created
  were Scrooge, Oliver Twist, And David
  Copperfield. Four of Dickens novels are A
  Christmas Carol, Oliver Twist, David Copperfield,
  and Nicholas Nickleby.
• He died in 1870 because of a stroke.

• In 1842 Dickens came to America and came back
  saying that it was cross and disappointing.
• In 1843 Dickens wrote A Christmas Carol and in
  the same year the first Christmas card was
  invented.

Summary of Stave 1

• Scrooges business partner died 7 years ago on
  Christmas Eve. Marley came to Scrooges house and
  warned him about the spirits that were going to
  come to him. Marley had a lot of chains on him
  and I think that symbolized greediness. Scrooge
  is very cruel and greedy throughout this stave.

Summary of Stave 2

• The first spirit came to Scrooges house and the
  spirit was the past. The spirit took scrooge to
  the past Christmas and Scrooge was beginning to
  be happier and he recognized Fezziwig. I found
  out that the only person who loved Scrooge was
  the girl he was engaged to but they broke up
  because of money. I think the light from the
  sprits head symbolized Scrooges new attitude.

Summary of Stave 3

• The second of the three ghosts came to Scrooges
  house and it turns green and there was mistletoe
  and lots of food. The ghost was the ghost of the
  present. He took Scrooge to The Crachits house
  and they had a feast. When Scrooge was leaving he
  looked to his right and saw a hooded phantom.

Summary of Stave 4

• The last of the spirits came to Scrooges house
  and this time it took him to the future. The
  spirit showed scrooge the way that Tiny Tim died
  and how Scrooge died. Scrooge was scared and he
  promised that he would change and not be greedy
  anymore.

Summary of Stave 5

• Scrooge woke up on Christmas morning and he was
  so happy that the spirits had came to him all on
  one night. He played a joke on Bob by saying he
  was late again and then said you get a raise. Bob
  and Tiny Tim would change a lot. This book was
  awesome!

Theme

• The theme of the book of this book was exciting.
  Scrooge is lonely and cruel. His buisness partner
  died 7 years ago and he comes back to warn
  Scrooge about the spirits. The spirits take him
  to the past, present, and the future. He finally
  decided to be nice and give money to the
  charities.
