• In this study, we will look at the premise for
  every believer to receive the Promise which is
  the Holy Spirit.
• One of the key roles for the Holy Spirit is the
  confirmation that you are Gods Child and that
  you are forgiven and now belong to HIM

• For ye have not received the spirit of bondage
  again to fear but ye have received
• the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba,
  Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with
  our spirit, that we are the children of God

• Jesus Himself introduced this reality
• On the final and climactic day of the Feast,
  Jesus took his stand. He cried out, If anyone
  thirsts, let him come to me and drink. Rivers of
  living water will brim and spill out of the
  depths of anyone who believes in me this way,
  just as the Scripture says. (He said this in
  regard to the Spirit, whom those who believed in
  him were about to receive. The Spirit had not yet
  been given because Jesus had not yet been
  glorified.)

• Again Jesus does this just before the Cross
• However, I am telling you nothing but the truth
  when I say it is profitable (good, expedient,
  advantageous) for you that I go away. Because if
  I do not go away, the Comforter (Counselor,
  Helper, Advocate, Intercessor, Strengthener,
  Standby) will not come to you into close
  fellowship with you but if I go away, I will
  send Him to you to be in close fellowship with
  you.

  Intercessor, Advocate, Strengthener, and

• We can characterise the gift of the Holy Spirit
  by three distinctive features
• Personal
• Permanent
• Indwelling

• In His final charge before His departure, Jesus
  says
• Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you
  but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are
  endued with power from on high.
• Luke 2449

• There are around 7,000 distinct promises in the
  Bible yet our Lord is singling out one??!!

• Christ has redeemed us from the curse of the law,
  having become a curse for us (for it is written,
  Cursed is everyone who hangs on a tree), 14
  that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the
  Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive
  the promise of the Spirit through faith.

• On the Day of Pentecost, Peter echoes similar
  words
• Then Peter said to them, Repent, and let every
  one of you be baptized in the name of Jesus
  Christ for the remission of sins and you shall
  receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the
  promise is to you and to your children, and to
  all who are afar off, as many as the Lord our God
  will call.

• The Promise to Abraham
• I will bless you...
• And you shall be a blessing...
• And in you all the families of the earth shall be
  blessed.

• It was to purchase this blessing, promised to the
  seed of Abraham, that Jesus our Lord shed His
  precious blood on the Cross!
• But Christ came as High Priest of the good things
  to come, with the greater and more perfect
  tabernacle not made with hands, that is, not of
  this creation. 12 Not with the blood of goats and
  calves, but with His own blood He entered the
  Most Holy Place once for all, having obtained
  eternal redemption.

• The Blood speaks
• And to Jesus, the Mediator (Go-between, Agent) of
  a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood which
  speaks of mercy, a better and nobler and more
  gracious message than the blood of Abel which
  cried out for vengeance.

• This is He who came by water and bloodJesus

  because the Spirit is truth.

• The Spirit Testifies!
• The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit
  that we are children of God, NKJV
• The Spirit Himself thus testifies together with
  our own spirit, assuring us that we are

• You have been SEALED!
• In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard
  the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation
  in whom also after that ye believed, ye were
  sealed with that holy Spirit of promise,
• Ephesians 113

  the Spirit in our hearts.
