Foundation, McKesson Foundation, National Science
Foundation and the NIHMobile health (mHealth)
has the potential to simultaneously reduce the
cost of health care and improve our health by
encouraging healthy behaviors, providing
continuous monitoring to prevent or reduce health
problems, reducing acute health care visits, and
providing personalized, real-time intervention in
the mobile environment. However, traditional
methods of evaluation needed to address efficacy
and safety in mHealth are not well aligned to the
pace of technological development.

17Goal 1 Promote Text4Baby
- Text4baby is the largest mhealth program in the
US to date. It is a free text messaging service,
in English and Spanish, that provides pregnant
women and new moms with information to help them
care for their health and give their babies the
best possible start in life. -
18National Launch February 4th, 2010
Text4baby is the first free mobile health
service to be taken to scale in the United
States We know that mobile phones hold
tremendous potential to inform and empower
individuals. Text4baby represents an
extraordinary opportunity to expand the way we
use our phones, to demonstrate the potential of
mobile health technology, and make a real
difference for moms and babies across the
country.
