History

• Before the pneumatic tires people had been trying
  to come out with a way to make transportation
  both comfortable and to get more traction from
  their wheels.
• Every redesign was better than the last but the
  concept was still the same, most wheels were
  either wooden or metal framed.

Inventors

• The first pneumatic tire was actually created by
  Robert W. Thomson but his innovated idea of an
  inflatable tire was ignored. This had been in
  1845 which was 43 years before the pneumatic came
  out commercially.
• In 1888 John Boyd Dunlop was the one to receive
  the patent for the first inflatable tire and was
  then distributed to various assembly lines.
• This inventions had a huge impact on many levels
  for example cyclist and eventually automobiles
  and everything on wheels.

Needs Assessment

• Even though the pneumatic was a huge success for
  both commercial and practical use, tires had been
  made without replacement in mind.
• Repair and replacement was difficult and nearly
  impossible without damaging either the wheel or
  the vehicle.

Redesign

• In 1891 the Michelin brothers Edouard and Andre
  came out with the first inflatable tire to be
  both replaceable and reparable.
• Their innovative redesign was the first to be
  mounted on a race car that participated in the
  Paris-Bordeaux- Paris race
• Others soon joined Dunlop and Michelin with new
  pneumatic tire
• Benjamin F. Goodrich in 1896
• Charles Goodyear in 1898
• Harvey Firestone in 1903

• They had the most innovative ideas for the
  pneumatic tire for example
• Dual tires on trucks and busses to support heavy
  weight
• Reinforced rubber used in tires with metal wiring
• And first to market radial-ply belted tire

Accomplishment

• Thanks to many great inventors who had the drive
  to satisfy the peoples need we now have the
  pneumatic tire which is effortlessly make the
  life of many easy.
• What really made this possible is the the
  peoples acceptance of bringing in modern items
  to improve life without the fear of change.
