  • Potential Energy to Kinetic Energy

Potential Energy
  • A rock on top of a hill has a potential to do
    work.
  • The top of the hill is a high energy state and
    the bottom of the hill is a lower energy state.

Kinetic Energy
  • If the rock is allowed to roll down the hill,
    then the potential energy is converted into
    kinetic energy.
  • Kinetic energy is the energy that a moving object
    has.

Conservation of Energy
  • The Kinetic Energy could then be converted back
    into potential energy.
  • The energy can be split into Potential Energy
    and/or Kinetic Energy

Friction
  • Most of the time friction will slow the object
    down
  • Friction always acts opposite to the direction of
    motion

  • For this system the Potential Energy (PE) is
    going to be exchanged for Kinetic Energy (KE) and
    this will give the mass some velocity
