  program does not include nurse delegated tasks

• Regardless of this rule, agencies cannot delegate
  these tasks to an attendant and bill them under
  the PAS program

  unlicensed person under this rule can be paid
  under the PAS program
• Must be authorized on the consumer profile

Medication Is it administration or assistance?

• Medication assistance falls into the category of
  an assigned task
• Assignment for assisting with self-administration
  of medications may occur when
• Verbal suggestions, prompting, reminding, etc.
• Handing pre-filled, labeled medication holder,
  labeled unit dose, syringe or original marked,
  labeled container to the patient,
• Opening the lid of above-referenced container for
  the consumer

Assignment of assisting with self-administration
of medications cont.

• Assistance may occur when
• Guiding the hand of the patient to
  self-administer the medication
• Holding and assisting the patient in drinking
  fluid to assist in the swallowing of oral
  medication
• Assisting with the removal of medication from a
  container for consumer with a physical disability
  which prevents independence with the act
