Title: Lemonade

1
Lemonade
Activity for the 1st cycle
2
Educational Aim
This LES serves as a pretext to
-the exploration of the conservation of matter
(liquid quantities and volume) -the development
of good work methods -initiate the concept of
solubility -problem resolution (economic aspect
of consumption).

Activity 1

Activity 3
Mixtures
Material A preparation guide has been supplied
for all the activities. We tried to establish a
materials list using every day items.
9
Mixtures Theoretical capsule
  • What is a mixture? (4 definitions)
  • What are the two types of mixtures?

Homogenous
Heterogeneous
We can not distinguish the different substances
present at the start.
We can distinguish the different substances that
have been mixed (not always to the naked eye).
10
Mixtures Theoretical capsule
  • What is dissolution?
  • Difference between soluble and non soluble
  • Collective demonstration to  live  dissolution
  • Experiments by the students

11
Mixtures Student observations
  • On top, there is water, at the bottom, the sand.
  • The water has changed colours. There are grains
    (pepper).
  • The grains (Epsom salts) have disappeared.

12
Mixtures Student observations
  • The grains of sand stay at the bottom of the
    water and its transparent.
  • I put the water in after some sand. I mixed it
and the water was kind of mixed with dust and the
    sand had not disappeared.
  • The water looks yellowish. The water level is
    higher. (brown sugar)

Activity 4

Comment
It may be difficult to manage the activity alone.
The teacher would redo the activity with a
colleague.
