Automated External Defibrillator (AED)

• Adult over age 8 or 50 lbs

Step 1

• Open and turn on AED

Step 2

• Wipe the chest dry
• Note remove any medication patches with a gloved
  hand

• Attach pads to bare chest

• Plug in connector if necessary

• Make sure no one including you is touching the
  person
• Say EVERYONE STAND CLEAR

• Let the AED analyze the heart rhythm

• IF shock is advised
• Make sure no one including you is touching the
  person
• Say EVERYONE STAND CLEAR
• Push shock button if necessary

What Next

• After shock
• Give five cycles or 2 minutes of CPR then let AED
  reanalyze
• If no shock is advised give 2 minutes of CPR
• The AED will tell you what to do.
