Guidelines for Learning Environment and Centers
  1. Divide the space into well-defined interest areas
    for distinctive types of play.
  2. Choose names for the interest areas that children
    understand
  3. Establish visual boundaries
  4. In developing the floor plan, consider the fixed
    elements of the physical setting and traffic flow
    within and between interest areas.
  5. Plan the interest areas to accommodate many types
    of play.
  6. Make sure materials are safe, clean and well
    maintained.

  1. Choose materials that reflect the childrens
    interests.
  2. Choose materials that are appropriate for the
    childrens developmental levels.
  3. Provide items that can be used in a variety of
    ways.
  4. Choose materials that support different types of
    play that are typical of young children.
  5. Choose materials that reflect the experiences and
    cultures of the children in the program, and that
    reflect human diversity in unbiased ways.
  6. Make sure materials are safe, clean and well
    maintained.

  2. Use see-through containers to store materials in
    plain view.
  3. Make sure materials are consistently stored in
    the same place.
  4. Label shelves and containers so children can find
    and put away materials.
