3D SOLID MODEL TDPs

• TACOM technical data system currently based on
  2-D raster images of line drawings.
• TACOM is converting to a system based on 3-D
  solid models.
• This 3-D tech data will be used for production,
  design interface and upgrades, logistics support,
  configuration management, etc.

• Faster design upgrades
• Build virtual parts and assemblies in the
  computer
• Infinite viewpoints and exploded views of
  assemblies
• Rapid prototyping
• Engineering analysis capabilities (stress,
  thermal, interference fit, tolerance stack-up,
  etc.)
• Reduced manufacturing lead time and cost
• Automated generation and update of line drawings

TACOM-ARDEC 3D TDP SYSTEM

• Based on Pro/Engineer Solid Modeling and
  Pro/Intralink Product Data Management toolset.
• Adobe Acrobat (.pdf) of Pro/E drawings will still
  be document of record (I.e 2-D Drawings are still
  going to be used).
• Other 3D CAD packages (CATIA, SOLIDWORKS,
  Unigraphics, etc) may be used in the future.

• 2 CDs are provided with each 3D TDP request
• The information on these CDs is presented in 6
  formats which are
• Adobe Acrobat Portable Document Format (PDF)
  files
• JEDMICS .C4 Raster Images (contractual TDP)
• Pro/Engineer Native 2-Dimensional line drawings
• Pro/Engineer Native Solid Models
• Standard Format for the Exchange of Product Data
  (STEP) format representation of solid models
• Virtual Reality Markup Language (VRML)
  representation of solid models
• Technical Data Package List (TDPL) and Read-me
  files are also provided on each CD

• End item and spare parts manufacturers can take
  advantage of 3D to reduce manufacturing lead time
  and cost.
• RD contractors may be asked to provide Tech data
  in 3D Solid Model Format.
• Interface issues become easier to solve as more
