Artificial Turf Investigation

• Two artificial turf golf mats were purchased
• Mat 1 dimension three feet by five feet
• Fibers are forest green demonstrated in slide 5
• Mat 2 dimension one feet by two feet
• Fibers are green and thicker than Mat 1
• Mats 1, and 2 ( fibers and backing) were analyzed
  separately for lead (Pb) using standard EPA/ERT
  methods for soils.

• Multimedia samples were collected and analyzed at
  EPA/ERT/REAC Laboratory
• Contacted Artificial turf manufacture to obtain
  information and sample of turf
• On Site XRF analysis was performed for lead
• The investigation revels that the Artificial Turf
  is the source of Pb at the Athletic Field based
  on various analysis
• The finding were presented by Region to city
• The City is in process of replacing with the new
  turf
