Mission
  • (1) develop the uses of IR in scientific RD
    and in industrial processes
  • (2) promote the advancement of knowledge of
    nuclear phenomena and techniques
  • (3) stimulate techniques, materials, equipment,
and facilities that use IR in research through
    the collaboration of industrial, governmental,
    medical, and educational institutions.

3
Governance
  • Chair (1 yr. Term)
  • Vice-chair (1 yr. Term)
  • Secretary (2 yr. Term)

    succession) approved at this meeting.

8
Communications
  • Web http//ird.ans.org/ (est. 2003)
  • Currently bare bones (mission statement and
executive committee). Plan is to update and
    include newsletters, minutes, information on
    honors awards
  • E-mail ird_at_list.ans.org
  • Used and useful.
  • Spring 04 Newsletter

9
Position Statement
  • PPS30 U.S. Radioisotopes Supply
  • Update should be approved this meeting
  • Update is the result of the 2004 ANS Presidents
Special Committee on Isotope Assurance and
    forthcoming position paper
  • IRD Chair served on the committee

10
Participation with Other Professional Societies
  • National Organization of Test, Research, and
Training Reactors (TRTR) - representing nearly 50
research reactors from government, industry, and
universities throughout the U.S. and worldwide.
  • At least one session at each national meeting is
devoted to research reactors and is sponsored or
    co-sponsored by IRD.
  • Institute of Nuclear Materials Management (INMM)
promotes best approaches and procedures for
implementing all aspects of nuclear materials
    management
  • Participation at Safeguards Topical Conf.

11
Society Leadership
  • Exec. Comm. has gt 50 participation at national
    meetings (required for quorum)
  • Lacking participation in PDC efforts
  • Full participation in NPC efforts

12
Non-Meeting Publications
  • The IRD does not actively stimulate contributions
to non-meeting publications, however, members do
contribute papers to the technical journals.
  • IRD Chair contributed to the special committee
forthcoming position paper on isotope assurance

13
Professional Development
  • IRD has not supported any professional
    development workshops or activities

14
Scholarships
  • JAMES R. VOGT MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
  • Established in 1986 to recognize outstanding
students at U.S. Universities and colleges
entering the field of radioanalytical chemistry
    and its applications.
  • Students must be engaged or proposing to
undertake graduate or undergraduate research in
    radioanalytical chemistry or its applications.
  • 2500 award
  • Currently funded at 28k, IRD Exec. Comm. has
voted to devote future topical meetings income
    towards endowing the scholarship.
  • BMD is a co-sponsor.

15
Peer Awards
  • Radiation Science Technology Award
  • recognizes outstanding creative applications of
    radiation sciences and engineering principles
  • 2000 award, currently funded at 37k
  • Mishima Award
  • recognizes outstanding contributions in research
and development work on nuclear fuels and
    materials.
  • IRD co-sponsors this award with the Materials
    Science and Technology Division

16
Student Support
