Title: ICANN Carthage WHOIS Workshop

ICANN CarthageWHOIS Workshop
  • October 29,2003

Data Elements Captured and Displayed
  • Section 3.3.1.1 of the RAA requires
  • 3.3.1.1 The name of the Registered Name
  • 3.3.1.2 The names of the primary nameserver and
secondary nameserver(s) for the Registered Name
  • 3.3.1.3 The identity of Registrar (which may be
    provided through Registrar's website)
  • 3.3.1.4 The original creation date of the
    registration
  • 3.3.1.5 The expiration date of the registration
  • 3.3.1.6 The name and postal address of the
    Registered Name Holder
  • 3.3.1.7 The name, postal address, e-mail address,
voice telephone number, and (where available) fax
number of the technical contact for the
    Registered Name and
  • 3.3.1.8 The name, postal address, e-mail address,
voice telephone number, and (where available) fax
number of the administrative contact for the
    Registered Name.

3
Customer/Consumer User Group Demand
  • I have never liked having my home address and
phone number freely listed for anyone who looks
at my domain name information. As an individual,
I do not have access to PO boxes or corporate
numbers to use as valid replacements. Requiring
us to update this highly personal information and
    make it public is preposterous.

4
Customer/Consumer User Group Demand
  • Because my information was listed on whois, a
man who has been harassing me online for about a
year, was able to get my home address, and
telephone number and step up his harassment of
    me.
  •  I should have the choice of omitting my
personal information (home address, phone number,
and email address) from this public database.

5
Customer/Consumer User Group Demand
  • I would register more domains if I were not
    concerned about the privacy ramifications.
