  • ADVANCED POWER AND ENERGY PROGRAM

03/15/05
2
OVERVIEW
  • Barcroft Vision and Goals
  • System Characterization
  • Power Demand
  • Solar Resources
  • Wind Resources
  • Heat Demand
  • Future Work

3
BARCROFT VISION
  • Program Goals
  • Increase Safety
  • Increase Reliability and Power Quality
  • Lower Utility Bills
  • Test Innovative Power Generation Technologies

6
BARCROFT DEMAND DATA
7
POWER MONITORING SUMMARY
  • AVERAGE DEMAND SUMMARY (kW)
  • Pace and large animal buildings consume more
than 52 of the average power (and energy)
  • Observatory consumes approximately 29 of the
    power and energy at Barcroft
  • Remaining 19 goes to small animal and telescope
    buildings.

8
PV IMPACTS (SIMULATED)
9
PV IMPACTS (SIMULATED)
  • Using demand data from September, simulations
were performed analyzing the economic impacts of
varying the installed PV capacity 5,10,15, and
    20kW
  • Peak reduction benefit disappears for this month
after 10kW of PV (peak occurring with no solar
    power available is maintained)
  • - cost of peak demand is 5.40/kW during winter
(savings 36/month), and 13.15/kW during summer
    (June September savings 87/month)
