VRE - A UNIQUE PROGRAM

• VRE is not for everyone
• It works when you work

WHO QUALIFIES?

• Veteran who has
• a 10 Final Rating from VA
• applied for and completed the VRE program within
  12 years of VA notification of eligibility
• a discharge other than dishonorable
• A service member or veteran must also have an
  employment handicap

RE-EMPLOYMENT

• For veterans who want to return to the job they
  left prior to coming on active duty.
• VRE can help you understand your rights under
  the Uniformed Services Employment and
  Reemployment Act (USERRA)

RAPID ACCESS TO EMPLOYMENT

• Veterans have the training, education
  experience to become suitably employed
• Work with them in developing a resume, job
  seeking skills limited training

EMPLOYMENT THROUGH LONG TERM SERVICES

• For those who need specialized training and/or
  education
• VRE provides valuable services such as
• OJT
• Apprenticeships
• Internships
• Job Shadowing
• Higher Education

INDEPENDENT LIVING

• Veterans who are so severely disabled that they
  cant go to work right now.
• Very individualized service
• VRE can help

SELF-EMPLOYMENT

• For those who want to be self-employed
• Last possible track for employment.
• Have determined other tracks will not work
• Provide training and possibly minimal supplies
• Cannot provide rent or lease of property

  Vocational Rehabilitation Benefits

HOW TO GET SERVICES

• Entitlement is not automatic.
• If eligible, you must participate in a
  comprehensive evaluation with a counselor
• A VA counselor must make several decisions

POST 911 GI BILLEffective August 1, 2011

• Changes include
• Veterans entitled to Vocational Rehabilitation
  Post 911 can choose to receive BAH rate instead
  of subsistence allowance
• No break pay
