and to solve problems by imagining various
solutions, rejecting outdated rules and
assumptions. Questions about the arts do not
have only one right answer.
20Music is designated a core academic subject in
the 'No Child Left Behind Act.' No Child Left
Behind Act of 2002, Title IX, Part A, Sec. 9101

21A study of the arts provides children with an
internal glimpse of other cultures and teaches
them to be empathetic towards the people of these
cultures. This development of compassion and
empathy provides a bridge across cultural chasms
that leads to respect of other races at an early
age.
22Through music study, students learn the value of
sustained effort to achieve excellence and the
concrete rewards of hard work.
23If I were not a physicist, I would probably be
a musician. I often think in music. I live my
daydreams in music. I see my life in terms of
music. ... I get most joy in life out of
music. Albert Einstein
24Music causes us to think eloquently. Ralph
Waldo Emerson
25Music is what feelings sound like. anonymous
26Song is, after all, nothing more or less than
the soundtrack for the human experience.
Thomas Hampson and Carla Maria Verdino

27Music is the movement of sound to reach the
soul for the education of its virtue. Plato
28Ludwig van Beethoven
Music is a higher revelation than all wisdom and
philosophy....
29If a child hears fine music from the day of his
birth, and learns to play it himself, he develops
sensitivity, discipline, and endurance. He gets a
beautiful heart. Shinichi Suzuki
30What we play is life. Louis Armstrong
