Martin Luther King, Jr., was born on January 15,
1929, in Atlanta, Georgia.

He is remembered for his strong beliefs on
equality. He was willing to give 110 to his
fight for freedom.

Dr. King made his famous I have a dream speech
during the March on Washington for Jobs and
Freedom in 1963.

At the age of thirty-five, Martin Luther King,
Jr., was the youngest man to have received the
Nobel Peace Prize (1964).

How do you feel about Dr. Kings work? What does

The American Civil Rights Movement (19551968)
refers to the reform movements in the United
States aimed at abolishing racial discrimination
against African Americans. During that time,
there were violent crimes committed against them.

Dr. Kings inspiring speeches caused many minds
to think about what happened. He encouraged

Being a student here (at MLK Jr. Middle) means a
lot to me because our school is mixed with many
races. Our school is basically created by Dr.

ENDING SCHOOL SEGREGATION
The Little Rock Nine In 1957, African American
students were not allowed to attend Little Rock
Central High School in Arkansas. The Little Rock
Nine refused to give up on attending Central High
School. The Little Rock Nine were rejected from
Central High because of their race.

Going to MLK Jr. Middle means pride. I am glad
to say that I go to school here. It says that
people still care about what this man did for the

Dr. King helped our worlds cultures come

Dr. King was shot at 601 p.m. on April 4, 1968
while he was standing on the Lorraine Motels
second floor balcony in Memphis, Tennessee.

Like anybody, I would like to live a long life.
Longevity has its place, but I'm not concerned
about that now. I just want to do God's will,
and He's allowed me to go up to the mountain.
And I've looked over, and I've seen the
promised land. I may not get there with you,
but I want you to know tonight, that we, as a
people will get to the promised land.
