2Poland in Bologna Process
- 1999 - Poland was one of the 29 Bologna

Poland. - In 1989 the number of tertiary students grew to
378,000. - In 2005 Poland has 130 public HEIs and 315
non-public HEIs, with a total number of 1,900,000
students, including 1,300,000 at public HEIs and
600,000 at non-public HEIs - In 2009 - the number of tertiary students is
1,700,000.

8Diploma supplement
- Poland ratified the Lisbon Recognition
Convention on 17 March 2004 which entered into
force on 1 May 2004. - Since 1 January 2005 the Diploma Supplement has
been issued on request to all graduates and since
1 September 2005 automatically to all graduates,
in Polish. An additional copy of the DS is issued
on request in a widely spoken EU language.
The Convention on the Recognition of
Qualifications concerning Higher Education in the
European Region developed by Council of Europe
and UNESCO. 36 of 45 members of Bologna process
have signed Lisbon Convention. This document
focuses on recognition of qualifications
9Quality assurance
- The State Accreditation Committee (SAC), state
quality assurance agency was established in 2002.
- The quality assessment is conducted by SAC on an
obligatory and non-paid basis for all HEIs
(public and non-public). - SACs opinions and resolutions are legally
binding important for the financial support. - Universities Accreditation Commission
- not obligatory but very prestigious!
10Three-cycle system
- Being introduced on a voluntary basis up till
academic year 2006/2007, and it will was
introduced in all higher education institutions
on a compulsory basis as of 1 October 2007 (with
some delay for 9 fields). - There are 6 fields of study, which are
exclusively Masters studies (long cycle) - law, pharmacy, psychology, veterinary medicine,
medicine and medicine and dentistry

France, Spain, Italy and UK and students coming
to study in Poland are mostly form Germany,
France and Spain.

Uczelnia B
Vertical mobility between 1st and the 2nd cycle
is possible to change field of study (with some
limitations).
Horizontal mobility during 1st and the 2nd
cycle is possible to change university (in Poland
and abroad)
14Degrees awarded to graduates of HEI
- Licencjat - Polish equivalent of a Bachelor of
Arts degree or Bachelor of Science degree,
obtained upon completion of first-cycle programs
which last 3 or 3.5 years - Inzynier - Polish equivalent of the title of
Engineer - awarded to graduates of first-cycle
programs in engineering and technology. - Magister - the Polish equivalent of Master's
degree- awarded upon completion of 4- to 6-year
Masters degree programs offered in one cycle or
upon completion of 1.5- to 2-year second-cycle
Masters degree programs, undertaken by those who
have completed a first-cycle program and obtained
the degree of licencjat or inzynier.
15The third cycle
- The third cycle doctoral studies are accessible
to those, who hold a degree of magister or an
equivalent degree. - Those are 4-years studies but in some
circumstances may be shortened or extended (in
physics possible 5-years).
