    Inspector (RHI)

How to Become a RHI
  • The RHI (Registered Home Inspector) designation
    is the highest level of accreditation within the
    Ontario Association of Home Inspectors (OAHI).
  • Inspectors have achieved the educational
    requirements set by the association and performed
    a predetermined number of paid inspections. They
    must also complete annual educational updates in
    order to maintain this designation.
  • Process to be a RHI (Registered Home Inspector)
  • Step1 - Candidate Member
  • Step 2 - (New) Associate Member
  • Step 3 - RHI (Registered Home Inspector)

  • Provide proof of successful completion of an
    educational program in the field of home
    inspection based on the Standards of Practice
    from an OAHI recognized institution (i.e.
    University/College) which is in conformance with
    the National Occupational Standard
  • Complete Practical Training Component (mentoring)
  • Complete a peer review including report
    verification
  • Complete a minimum of 40 hours (1 course) of
    additional academic training per year towards
    completion of RHI requirements with the Defect
    Recognition and Reporting Course taken in the
    first year

  • Member meets the requirements as set out for
    Candidate Member
  • Minimum 150 Fee Paid Inspections
  • Associate Members must complete a minimum of 40
    hours (1 OBC Course) of additional academic
    training per year towards completion of RHI
    requirements.
  • After completing the OBC Part 9 courses -
    Building Envelope Health and Safety, Associates
    must complete a minimum of 20 hours continuing
    education per year

  • Member has completed all education, practical
    experience, verification, exams, etc. set out for
    Associate Members
  • (if not successfully completed previously)
  • Defect Recognition and Reporting Course
  • OBC Part 9, Health Safety
  • OBC Part 9, Building Envelope
  • Minimum 200 inspections total
  • Successful completion of peer review including
    report verification
  • RHI must complete a minimum of 20 hours
    (averaged) of continuing education per year to
    maintain currency
  • RHI is subject to periodic re-evaluation as per
    current OAHI Policy.
