Representing data

• Data include
• Character (e.g. letters, special symbols,
  punctuation marks, parentheses, braces etc.).
• String (e.g. a group of letters, a word, phrase
  or sentence, a combination of letters and
  numbers/special characters, digital signature.
• Numeric (all types of numbers).
• Aural or auditory (e.g. Morse Code, musical
  notes, speech).
• Visual (e.g. individual frames of a movie,
  fingerprints, retina).
• Musical symbols.
• Note a character or string is enclosed in
  quotation marks to identify it as input in a
  computer program.

Representing information

• Information include
• Text (words, phrases, sentences,
  instructions/directions).
• Graphics.
• Sound.
• Video.
• Special purpose notations (mathematical,
  scientific and musical notations).
• Graphical representations (graphs and charts).
• Tables.
