Title: Multiplying and Dividing Radical Expressions
1Chapter 7
- Section 2
- Multiplying and Dividing Radical Expressions
2Multiplying Radicals
Note The index must be the same for this rule to
be applied. (Both roots must be square, or
cubed, or fourth, etc)
3Multiply and Simplify if possible
4Simplify each expression. Assume that all
variables are positive. Note If all
variables are positive, then absolute value
symbols are never needed in the simplified
expression.
5Multiply and simplify. Assume that all variables
are positive.
6Dividing Radicals
Note The index must be the same for this rule to
be applied. (Both roots must be square, or
cubed, or fourth, etc)
7Divide and simplify if possible.
8Rationalize the denominator
- Rewrite the expression so there are no radicals
in the denominator and no denominators in the
radical
Note You can only reduce if both numbers are
inside or outside the radical sign.
