Title: Multiplying and Dividing Radical Expressions

1
Chapter 7
  • Section 2
  • Multiplying and Dividing Radical Expressions

2
Multiplying Radicals
Note The index must be the same for this rule to
be applied. (Both roots must be square, or
cubed, or fourth, etc)
3
Multiply and Simplify if possible
4
Simplify each expression. Assume that all
variables are positive. Note If all
variables are positive, then absolute value
symbols are never needed in the simplified
expression.
5
Multiply and simplify. Assume that all variables
are positive.
6
Dividing Radicals
Note The index must be the same for this rule to
be applied. (Both roots must be square, or
cubed, or fourth, etc)
7
Divide and simplify if possible.
8
Rationalize the denominator
  • Rewrite the expression so there are no radicals
in the denominator and no denominators in the
    radical

Note You can only reduce if both numbers are
inside or outside the radical sign.
