Promoting Excellence Framework for all health
and social services staff working with people
with dementia, their families and carers
  • 4 Levels of Knowledge Skills
  • Dementia Informed Practice baseline KS
    required by all staff working in health and
    social care settings including the persons own
    home
  • Dementia Skilled Practice KS required by all
    staff that have direct and/or substantial contact
    with PwD, their families and carers
  • Enhanced Dementia Practice KS required by
    staff with more regular and intense contact with
    PwD, provide specific interventions and/or direct
    or manage care services
  • Expertise in Dementia Practice KS required by
    staff, who by virtue of their role and practice
    setting, play an expert specialist role in the

    reflect the Promoting Excellence Framework

    Interventions and Therapies for People with
    Dementia, families and carers

    Interventions and Therapies for Stress and
    Distress in Dementia

    risk of admission to acute general care settings
  2. Creating Infrastructure Development/Leadership
    for Change in Social Services to support
    implementation of Promoting Excellence
  3. Improve workforce capability in palliative and
    end of life care for PwD
  4. Evaluating the impact of training in
    Post-Diagnostic Support
  5. Develop deliver post-diagnostic support
    training in partnership with Alzheimers Scotland
