EcoHort
  • The Australian nursery industry makes a
    significant contribution to almost all
horticultural and forestry industries across the
    nation. Production nursery enterprises provide
greenlife to retail, landscape, fruit production,
    vegetable production, forestry plantation, cut
    flower production, interiorscape and revegetation
    systems
  • EcoHort provides a risk assessment-based pathway
to production nurseries and media manufacturing
    businesses to demonstrate their environmental
stewardship and natural resource management to
government, markets, industry and the general
    community.
  • EcoHort Guidelines for Managing the Industry
    2006

12
  • How can each industry sector become more
    sustainable?

13
  • How can sectors work better together?

14
  • How can we better market our green/sustainable
    credentials?

15
Points to note
  • Our industry IS sustainable
  • We do have sufficient water, fertiliser and
    media components available.
  • However, prices will increase and community
expectations will rise so we must continue to
    improve our resource management.
  • A greater percentage of pots must be re-used or
    recycled.
  • Market share of biodegradable containers will
    increase.

16
Points to note
  • Better promotion of our
  • Environmental Credentials
  • - to consumers
  • - to all levels of government (funding
    opportunities)
  • - to generate greater sales! ?

17
  • SUSTAINABILITY IS THE NEW BLACK
  • It feels good!
  • Its sexy!
  • It makes us stand out!
  • It builds confidence!
  • And most of all
  • Its the right way to grow!
