  industry on export quality furniture production
  and trade.
• Product type mainly garden/outdoor furniture
  (such as table, chair, umbrella)

• Production site Sinanggul Village, Mlonggo
  Subdistrict, Jepara District.
• Production capability 12 containers per annum.

• Work closely in cooperation with suppliers, as of
  assurance of legal supply of materials.
• Documented production process, as of materials
  and products meeting the audit required
  documentation.

Association as the platform for legality
verification

• CV Mebel Jati Jepara also member of Jepara Wood
  Industries Association (APKJ/Asosiasi Pengrajin
  Kayu Jepara) since 2009.
• Main mission is to improve SMEs capability and
  competitiveness including direct export activity.
• APKJ as the Management Representave for group
  certification on legality verification for its
  members.

WHY SVLK

• Consumer acceptability on SVLK certified
  products. Starting 2004, number of buyers and
  their associates start questioning the assurance
  of legality of Indonesia furniture products, even
  felt its taboo business due to the illegal
  logging problems.
• SVLK is mandatory as regulated by the Minister of
  Forestry (2009, 2011, 2012) and Minister of Trade
  (2012).
• Number of trade partners already required SVLK.

Company effort and improvement related to SVLK

• Adequate documentation of input and output of raw
  materials along with personel in charge.
• Completion of all relevant permits as required
  for audits
• Adequate labour and safety requirement.

SVLK as a group learning process
Members of APKJ and craftmans around CV. Mebel
Jati Jepara routinely review (and training on)
the documentation of materials input-output and
measurement of production volume.

Supports for SME SVLK

1. Local government support on SVLK implementation
   in district level, such as in relation to
   district-level permits (EIA, SME industry
   registration, simplify transport document
   requirement, etc).
2. Financial support for first round of SMEs group
   SVLK certification.

Challenges and Expectations for possible solutions

• Further outreach of SVLK in detail, including
  export requirement so that this system will be
  more well known, which will also help SMEs grup
  certification to enggaged in cooperation with
  certified suppliers.
• Support for SMEs on acquiring/maintaining SVLK
  certificate or relevant conditions to minimize
  cost (such as local auditors).

Challenges and Expectations for possible solutions

• Improvement of capability in documentation of
  production process (report of relevant documents
  of raw materials up to the trade of end products)
  and products measurement/scaling, including
  sub-contractors. For group certification,
  applied for all group members (better book
  keeping records).

Expectation to the Market

• Clear link or positive recoqnition of export
  policy of Indonesia (SVLK along with the export
  licence) with regulations/market requirements of
  consumers countries, especially EU market.
• Market willingness to cover the reasonable price
  of SVLK certificate (legality assurance).
