All East About him
  • C.S Lewis
  • His full name is Clive Staples Lewis.
  • He was born on the 29th November 1898, in East
    Belfast in a house where Dundela flats now
    stand.
  • He has written over 40 books in his lifetime,
    over 20 of them have been translated into
    different languages.

Pastimes
  • He enjoyed looking through his telescope. He
    looked at the shipyards in East Belfast and he
    also loved swimming in the sea in Castlerock.
  • As a teenager, he collected his favourite stories
    and poems.
  • He memorized long passages from his favourite
    books.

Facts
  • When he was five years old, he had a pet dog
    called Jack but it died, and after that he
    demanded to be called Jack.
  • When he was six, his family moved to the edge of
    the city and lived in Little Lea on the Circular
    Road in the Belmont area of Belfast. The house is
    still there.
  • The house he moved to had long corridors, rooms,
    spaces to explore and an attic.

  • In 1917 C.S Lewis went to Oxford University.
  • He graduated from university in 1922.
  • He became a teacher in 1925 in Oxford University.
  • He used to get up an hour early every morning to
    write his books.

The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe
  • CS Lewis wrote The Lion The Witch and the
    Wardrobe.
  • The book tells of the adventures of the Pevensie
    children in Narnia.
  • The book has a deep religious meaning.

Inspirations
  • The ruins of Dunluce castle on the north coast
    may have been the inspiration for the Cair
    Paravel in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
  • He attended Campbell College in Belfast. The
    street lamp may have been the inspiration for the
    lamp in The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe.
  • The landscape of County Down, especially the
    Mourne Mountains where he loved to go walking
    when he returned to Northern Ireland, was his
    inspiration for Narnia.

Landmarks
  • There is a plaque to mark where C.S Lewiss
    house stood.
  • In St Marks church there is a stained glass
    window donated to the Lewis family.
  • One of his most famous quotes There isnt a
    book or a cup of tea big enough for me
  • The Searcher statue on the Hollywood Road shows
    the wardrobe and C.S Lewis.

C.S Lewis
  • C.S Lewis married Joy Gresham in 1956.
  • She died in 1960.
  • C.S Lewis died in 1963 at the age of 65.

CS Lewis Mural
  • Since the Peace Process began, many paramilitary
    murals in East Belfast have been replaced with
    Peaceful murals.
  • In Dee Street in East Belfast there is now a
    mural about CS Lewis and Narnia.
