Title: Web Services Management

1
Web ServicesManagement
  • OASIS Face To Face
  • 9/18/02

2
Team Goal
  • D-AG007 Management and Provisioning
  • The standard reference architecture for Web
Services must provide for a manageable and
    accountable environment for Web Services
    operations..
  • Critical success factors and requirements for
    this goal
  • D-AC018 The Web Services Architecture must enable
the management and provisioning of Web Services

3
Requirements
  • AC018.1 Ensure that implementations of the Web
    Services Architecture are manageable.
  • AR018.1.1 Define a base set of standard metrics
    for architectural components and their
    interactions accompanied by guidelines for
    measurement.
  • AR018.1.2 Define a base set of standard
    management operations for Web Services
    Architecture implementations. Management
operations includes, but is not limited to,
support for configuration control and lifecycle
    control.
  • AR018.1.3 Define a base set of management events
to be issued by the Web Services Architecture
    implementation.
  • AR018.1.4 Define a standard methodology for
accessing management capabilities from the Web
    Services Architecture implementation.

4
Requirements
  • AC018.2 Ensure that implementations of the Web
    Service instances are manageable.
  • AR018.2.1 Define how a web service should expose
    web service specific metrics, configuration,
    operations, and events.
  • AR018.2.2 Support the discovery of web service
    management capabilities.
  • AR018.2.3 Define a standard methodology for
accessing management capabilities of a Web
Service through the Web Services Architecture
    implementation.

5
Requirements
  • Ensure that at least the following types of
    management aspects are supported
  • Resource Accounting,
  • Usage Auditing and Tracking,
  • Performance Monitoring,
  • Availability,
  • Configuration,
  • Control,
  • Security Auditing and Administration
  • Service Level Agreements

6
Management Task Force
  • Goal Draft architecture to satisfy management
    requirements
  • TimeLine 6-8 weeks
  • Deliverables
  • Basic Management Data
  • Access to Management Data
  • List of Outstanding To Dos and Timelines
  • Approach to coordinate with other Standards
Bodies (OASIS MP TC and DMTF)

7
Management Task Force
  • Extreme standards
  • Lead Heather Kreger, IBM
  • Primary Participants
  • Computer Associates - Igor Sedukhin
  • Hewlett Packard - Zulah Eckert, Yin-Leng Husband
  • Thomson - Hao He
  • Secondary Participants
  • SAP - Colleen Evans
  • Web Methods - Prasad Yendluri
  • Cisco Sandeep Kumar
  • All communication on public mailing list
    w3c-ws-arch_at_w3.org under MTF

8
W3C Web Services Architecture Working Groups role
  • Provide a Web Services Architecture
  • To provide context
  • To provide guidance
  • To promote consistent deliverables
  • To promote interoperability/cooperation
  • To define the basic management aspects of the
    architecture

9
Manageable Components
  • Web Service Execution Environment
  • For the Execution Environment
  • For its contained Services
  • Web Service
  • Registry centralized and distributed
  • UDDI (push model)
  • WSIL (support crawling registries)
  • Other registries

10
MTF Needs To Define
  • For each component
  • Data (Identity, Configuration)
  • Metrics
  • Operations
  • Events
  • Model Agnostic
  • probably an XML schema of the data
  • Probably portTypes and serviceTypes
  • Use to create appropriate representations CIM,
    OMI, etc.

11
MTF Needs To Define
  • Access to data
  • To Service Execution Environment
  • To a Service
  • To a Registry
  • We would like this will be the result of the
    OASIS MP TC
  • We would like to submit requirements and advise
