As parents, teachers, priests, parish catechists
or youth workers ... Our roles in the settings of
home, parish, school and other centres are
complementary yet distinct. We are partners in a
shared task. We help the young to grow and
develop but we do so in different ways. We need
to be clear about our different roles if we are
to perform them with confidence. At times we have
false expectations of what we can do and we make
unrealistic demands of others.  Gallagher, J.,

Creator God, You are mother and a father to us
all. You hold us all equally in your love as
children of God. Grant us the grace to share your
love with other people to love and to be
loved, to give and to receive, to trust and to
be trusted, to forgive and be forgiven. Help us
to be constant in your love. Help us to live
fully in all the roles we have in family life and
strengthen us with your grace to be evermore part
of your family, the family of God. Amen

No one can believe alone, just as no one
can live alone. You have not given yourself
faith as you have not given yourself life. The
believer has received faith from others and
should hand it on to others. Our love for Jesus
and for our neighbour impels us to speak to
others about our faith. Catechism of the
Catholic Church 166

Faith is a personal act - the free
response of the human person to the initiative
of God who reveals himself. But faith is not an
isolated act. Catechism of the Catholic Church
166
Each believer is thus a link in the great
chain of believers. I cannot believe without
being carried by the faith of others, and by my
faith I help support others in the faith.
Catechism of the Catholic Church 166

Partners in a shared task
  • So what do we want to achieve this morning?
  • We want to listen to your experience as people
involved in Passing on the Faith
  • What does this phrase mean to you?
  • How do you describe your role in this?
  • How do you see the role of the other partners in
    this?

12
Why?
  • Therefore, it is necessary that parishes
increasingly strive to support families, the
little domestic Churches, in their work of
    passing on the faith.
  • Pope Benedict in a sermon during a celebration of
    Baptism, 9 January 2011.

Closing Prayer
Father, you sent your only Son Jesus Christ to
lead us into the truth of your love for us. As we
open every day to your gift of faith, may we
grow ever stronger, with open minds and
hearts. As we leave this place bless us, and all
those whom we love may we all receive courage,
joy and peace as we make our way in the journey
of faith, sharing what we have received with
others. We ask this through Christ our
Lord. AMEN

Thank you so much for coming this morning and for
the contribution you have made!
