  • Broad general education through experiences and
    outcomes at first, second and third levels.
  • Active learning in the classroom skills for the
    21st century.
  • Personalisation and choice.
  • Connections across subject boundaries-
    interdisciplinary learning.

  • Choice 8 subjects, some with new titles, but
    continuity with S1, S2.
  • Choice but still broad education, still active
    learning, still Skills for 21st century.
  • Broad education still based on experiences and
    outcomes now mainly fourth level.

Senior Phase
  • what we used to call S4/5/6.
  • years of National Qualifications.
  • S4 pupils choose 7 subjects, 4 periods per week.
  • Nat 3 or Nat 4 or Nat 5 in each subject
  • S5 and S6 pupils choose 5 subjects, 6 periods per
    week.
  • Nat 5 or Higher or Advanced Higher in each
    subject.

  • Nat 3 equivalent to Foundation level, assessed in
    school
  • Nat 4 equivalent to General level and Int 1,
    assessed in school
  • Nat 5 equivalent to Credit level and Int 2,
    assessed by national exam
  • Higher remains, assessed by national exam
  • Advanced Higher remains, assessed by national
    exam
