3Brief introduction of BBS
- Bangladesh Bureau of Statistics (BBS), the NSO
of Bangladesh is working under Statistics and
Informatics Division (SID), Ministry of
Planning - The broad functions of BBS are to collect,
compile, analyze and disseminate data and
statistics on social, economic, demographic, and
agriculture sectors - BBS is headed by a Director General and perform
its duties through eight wings headed by
Directors - Five subject matter wings

5. Objectives ? To conduct the 5th national population and housing census of Bangladesh through count of 100 households and population on specific date of 2011 ? To collect detailed socio-economic data on sample areas to complement the main count. ? To develop benchmark database for all areas of the country for preparation of development programmes ? To develop sampling frame for all socio-economic surveys ? To use in area delimitation and updating of electoral rolls of all national and local level elections

Thru providing trained local Registrars at field
level Show case product The retired age limit
of govt. service has been increased from 57 year
to 59 year by dint of increasing expectation of
life at birth To monitor the progress of
Millennium Development Goal by 2015, 4 (four)
important indicators are data obtained from the
survey. Such as (a) Under Five Mortality Rate (b)
Infant Mortality Rate (IMR) (c) Maternal
Mortality Rate (MMR) and (d) Total Fertility Rate
(TFR)

5. Objectives ? To Conduct 3rd Economic Census of Bangladesh in 2013 ? To collect basic data on activity conducted, persons engaged, year of establishment, type of ownership etc. ? To develop benchmark database for all areas of the country for preparation of development plans and programmes ? To prepare an up to date directory of industries and business enterprises for urban and rural areas based on Bangladesh Standard Industrial Classification( BSIC-2009) ? To develop sampling frame for planning and designing future surveys of non-farm economic activities. ? To understand the structure of the non-farm economic activities and measure the relative contribution of non-agricultural sector to the economy.

1. Project title Strengthening Capacity of BBS in Population and Demographic Data Collection using GIS

5. Objectives To Improve capacity of BBS in data collection, analysis, dissemination and report writing. To prepare time series data on VAW /Gender based survey in Bangladesh. Creation of Geo database along with Small Area Atlas using population census-2011 data. To improve SVRS and GIS data quality. Updated GIS EA Mauza/Mahallah maps with health and education facility pointed. Online data entry system for SVRS.
