Title: Navy Entomology Center of Excellence and the DWFP Program

1
Navy Entomology Center of Excellence and the
DWFP Program
  • Officer in Charge
  • George. B. Schoeler, PhD
  • Commander, Medical Service Corps,
  • U.S. Navy

2
Navy Entomology Center of Excellence (NECE)
  • NECE is unique as the only U.S. Department of
Defense activity devoted solely to operational
    public health entomology.
  • Provide worldwide operational support and
    services.
  • Develop novel application technologies to better
protect deployed war fighters from insects that
    transmit diseases.
  • NECE is an Echelon-5 command under
command/control of the Navy Marine Corps Public
    Health Center, Portsmouth, VA.

3
Navy Marine Corps Public Health Center
(NMCPHC)
  • NMCPHC provides leadership and expertise to
    ensure mission readiness through disease
prevention and health promotion in support of the
National Military Strategy (serves as the CDC for
    the Navy and Marine Corps)
  • Protection through Prevention
  • Provides expertise and technical support in
    military public health, including
  • Health Risk Assessment
  • Deployment Health Support
  • Population Wellness Support
  • Health Information Management
  • Health Surveillance Support

4
MISSION
Navy Entomology Center of Excellence (NECE) is
the Navy and Marine Corps center of expertise for
operational entomology. We develop and evaluate
novel products and application technologies to
better protect deployed forces from insects that
carry diseases. We provide force health
protection through operational disease vector
surveillance and control to enhance Navy and
Marine Corps mission readiness.

as well as new chemical products for the control
of disease carrying arthropods and pests of
    military importance.
  • Acts as agency representatives to the Armed
Forces Pest Management Board (AFPMB) and
participates in the testing and evaluation of
pest management equipment prior to its approval
    and procurement by DoD.
