FACILITATING LIFE TRANSFORMATION FOR PEOPLE
WITH LIFE-CONTROLLING PROBLEMS, ONE PERSON AT A
TIME.
3Introduction
- Our heart is reaching the lost and teaching that
they are valuable to God and He has a purpose for
each one of their lives. - We believe it is important to view the hurting
people of society as potential responsible
employees, parents, teachers, pastors,
missionaries, evangelists, etc.
4The Philosophy of Teen Challenge
- Challenge helps people to find a meaningful
answer to all of lifes problems. We believe
that Jesus Christ is the cure for all
life-controlling habits. - Teen Challenge offers a total cure (recovery)
for the whole person. This holistic approach
addresses the spiritual, mental emotional,
educational, physical, and social dimensions of
the individual as integrated components. -

61. Spiritual Dimension
-
- This affects every area of our lives.
External problems must be treated as the symptoms
of a spiritual root. - a. Real healing begins when the spiritual need is
met. Through Jesus Christ, the life of the
troubled person changes. - b. Because of this new life and the power of the
Holy Spirit, they learn to cope with problems.
72. Mental Emotional Warfare
-
- The Bible teaches, And do not be conformed to
this world, but be transformed by the renewing of
your mind, that you may prove what is that good
and acceptable and perfect will of God (Rom.
122)
82. Mental Emotional Welfare
- a. People who enter TC have suffered the
consequences of wrong thinking. - b. Consistent Bible study enhances mental
emotional health by serving as a foundation for
restructuring thought patterns, thereby creating
a new and stable way of life. - c. Group and personal mentoring facilitates
mental and emotional growth.
93. Educational Training
- a. Students may have the opportunity to complete
their high school education. - b. Others can be assisted in general education in
areas such as reading and writing. - c. Teen Challenge may offer professional
assistance and job skills training.
104. Physical Needs
- Teen Challenge cares for the physical needs of
the students by providing roof, shelter,
recreation, and work therapy as a part of the
daily program.
115. Socially
- a. Students Relate positively to their peers,
staff, family, and community. - b. Assume responsibilities as members of society,
their families, and the body of Christ. - c. Learn how to see to needs of others, live
unselfishly, and help one another.
12The Goals ofTeen Challenge
- The first goal is to bring people to a personal
relationship with Jesus Christ. - The second is to teach and train students what it
means to be a disciple. - The third goal of Teen Challenge is to prepare
students to successfully re-enter the mainstream
of society.
13Two Dangers to Avoid in Rehabilitation
- a. One danger is that students will learn all the
right words without experiencing the change that
comes from understanding and applying their
meaning. - b. The other is a danger of students experiencing
only an emotional release instead of having a
real spiritual change. A student may feel
guilty about past wrongdoings, confess their sins
in prayer with tears, and as a result feel
better. However, spiritual change begins with
repentance (turning from sin).
14The Structure of the Residential Program
- Teen Challenge is highly structured. The rules
and policies help students become aware of their
actions and attitudes, as well as the effect they
have on others. - The purpose of the structure is to
- a. Overcome negative behavior and habits.
- b. Realize the need to discipline their minds,
actions, and attitudes in every phase of life.
15The Structure of the Residential Program
- c. Have a stable environment that is predictable,
secure, and safe. - d. Assist in the information of positive habits
that should continue when they leave Teen
Challenge - As students grow and earn trust, more privileges
and responsibility should be given.

43Group Studies for New Christians
The Group Studies for New Christians classes are
fundamental tools in the process of developing a
deeper relationship Jesus Christ. The 14 classes
teach Biblical principles and give the tools to
apply them to the students lives. While these
courses are designed with new believers in mind,
they are a great refresher for those who are more
mature in their faith. These classes provide
practical hope for living in today's society.
44Personal Studies for New Christians
The Personal Studies for New Christians (PSNC) is
a non-traditional approach to training new
Christians. Teachers work one-on-one with each
student in the PSNC classroom, where each student
works at their own pace through a series of Bible
studies, character qualities, scripture
memorization, and much more. All the studies
focus on personal application today, helping new
Christians discover practical ways of using these
Biblical principles in their daily living.
