When Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy
Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with
tongues and prophesied Acts 196 "Therefore
I remind you to stir up the gift of God which is
in you through the laying on of my hands

Acts 84-25 Philip in Samaria - converted Simon
Peter and John came from Jerusalem and laid
hands on them and they received the Holy
Spirit v. 18-19 When Simon saw that through the
laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Spirit
was given, he offered them money, saying, "Give
me this power also, that anyone on whom I lay
hands may receive the Holy Spirit Rom. 111 For
I long to see you, that I may impart to you some
spiritual gift, so that you may be established

They went out and preached everywhere, the Lord
working with them and confirming the word through
the accompanying signs. Mk. 1620 "For I long
to see you, that I may impart to you some
spiritual gift, so that you may be

These Gifts Were to Cease
1 Corinthians 138 Love never fails. But
whether there are prophecies, they will fail
whether there are tongues, they will cease
whether there is knowledge, it will vanish away.
1Cor. 139 For we know in part and we prophesy
in part. 10. But when that which is perfect has
come, then that which is in part will be done
away.

• perfect law of liberty describes the gospel
  revealed
• Now the Spirit works through the Word to
  accomplish His work.
• The Spirit sanctifies, convicts, saves and
  continues to exert power (1 Pet. 12 Jn. 168
  Tit. 35)
• When Gods Word was completed then the signs were
  no longer needed.

• The church is older than the New Testament
• How shall we escape if we neglect so great a
  salvation, which at the first began to be spoken
  by the Lord, and was confirmed to us by those who
  heard Him, God also bearing witness both with
  signs and wonders, with various miracles, and
  gifts of the Holy Spirit, according to His own
  will?
