U.P.I
Unité
Dintégration
Pédagogique
Whats the U.P.I? Our middle school opened a new
structure That welcomes particular pupils.
What does it mean? An UPI is an Educational Unit
to integrate pupils presenting a handicap. In our
UPI, the pupils that are selected present diverse
handicaps and are the same age as all the other
students. This class answers the objective of
the government to create collective devices of
integration which can offer more flexible
modalities to welcome students presenting a
handicap. Some will be integrated little by
little into certain of the classes of the middle
school This class facilitates links of
solidarity, gratitude and helps understand
difference as well as tolerance, between the
pupils of the same age group.
6
Your wheelchair is not the end of your life, It
is the beginning of another one, one of
springtime When the bird without wings, breezes
by a shiver The icy monotonous chant of a flight
which runs away. Handicap has to be a strength
and not a weakness Even if all this can seem
difficult, to you Dont remain alone, folded up
in the shade, immovable, The wind will dry the
sobs of the gall which hurts you. Way and learn
beyond your faded legs, You will see later that
it is your road Where fate has nothing to do any
more, Even if today, the hours sadden your heavy
complaint. It is always necessary to find a
direction the next day, To resume and to
relight the torch of hope By raising without a
noise your arms towards victory To get past the
handicap and see farther.
Nobody is indifferent towards difference

How to go to the European class?
  • To be recruited in the European section, it is
necessary to have the required level. You have to
pass a test but also to have good school results.
  • There are two European sections a Spanish
    section and an English section.

We have three hours of English a week with our
English teacher and we have two hours a week of
civilization with another English teacher. It
makes five hours a week.
8
  • In the European class, we work on a specific
European issue. This year we are working on the
    Environment.
  • We often go out we saw an exhibition in Argeles
by Yann Arthus Bertrand. It has made us aware of
several environmental issues such as global
warming, the consumption of meat and the use of
    sustainable energy.
  • We also work on a forum of discussion called
Etwinning which allows us to correspond with
British pupils and it will help us get a European
mention at the end of High School.

9
Our trip to England
  • This year in European class, we are going on a
journey to England, to London, in order to
improve our English and learn more about the
    English culture.
  • We re going to visit museums and parks. We re
going to sleep in British families.

10
The Science Option
The science option is managed by Mr Lemay
(Science teacher), Mrs Roca (Biology teacher), Mr
Garcia (Technology teacher) and Mr Girardin
(Mathematics teacher), they work together in
common projects this year it is sustainable
development (they are building miniature
greenhouses in technology for science). There are
several groups which rotate between the four
teachers of this option. It allows pupils to
improve their knowledge in sciences and enter a
scientific section in High school. It s once a
week between noon and two o'clock with the 3èmes.
11
Science option
  • Last year, I was in the science option.
  • We made a meteorological balloon which we
released in the stadium of the school.
  • It was equipped with a camera to see Canet of
    height.
  • We equipped the meteorological balloon with a
reflector radar to prevent it from hitting a
    plane.

12
Dropping of the nacelle
  • We also timed the Dropping of the nacelle which
    contained all the data.
  • It never came down again...

13
The school cafeteria.

Dining hall
  • In our school , we have a big dining hall where
most of the pupils and teachers eat .
  • To eat, we have to use our meal card, then we go
to the self service where we can choose our
    deserts and entrances.

15
This is the school cafeteria.

Selection
  • Selection criteria to be admitted the pupils
    need
  • _ good grade level
  • _ good sport level
  • The coaches select the students who will join
this class if they fit the criteria above.
  • During the year the class constructed
participates in competitions or galas. Some of
the pupils achieve very good performances.

19
School options
  • Catalan, heritage, bilangue and latin options

20
Catalan
  1. We can choose options since 6 (the first year in
the school) like catalan which is the old
language of our region. Our catalan teacher is
    Mrs Malet-Salvador.

21
Heritage
  1. In 6 again, theres another option we can choose
heritage option. We go on trips to historical
cities three times a year. The historys teacher
how do it is Mrs. Dehaas. We could choose sport
option with heritage or catalan option. Those two
options always go on trips together.

22
Bilangue
  1. Thats (again) another option we can take in 6.
We learn English and Spanish. Most of the pupils
of the European class come from a bilangue class.
It doesnt guarantee to be in Europe class, but
if you work you are really good at English and/or
    at Spanish.

23
Latin
  1. This is the only option we can choose in the
beginning of the 5(its the class after the 6).
Thats very good for spelling because French is a
Latin Language. The Latin teachers are Mr Delcamp
and Mrs Vala. We have Latin twice a week in 5,
but then its three hours a week.

24
Activities

  • A cross-country running.
  • Outings to the cinema (for some classes)

29
This option is very interesting

30
  • Pupils without optional subjects are chosen,
since the 5th grade. Pupils remain together in
this section until the end of the last year of
    3rd grade.
  • Pupils pay more attention to the news and realize
that they can do many things (such as working on
computers or taking photos). It enables them to
get more critical and to keep an open mind.
