Matthew 2816-20 Then the eleven disciples went
to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told
them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped
him but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them
and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth
has been given to me. Therefore go and make
disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the
name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I
have commanded you. And surely I am with you
always, to the very end of the age."

  • Doubt in the New Testament
  • Aporeo to be without a way, perplexed (Mark
    620 John 1322)
  • Paul 2 Corinthians 48
  • Diaporeo thoroughly perplexed -gt despair (Acts
    212 524 1017)
  • Diakrino the opposite of believe (Matthew
    2121 Mark 1123 James 16)
  • Distazo to stand in two ways (Matthew
    1431 Matthew 2817)

6
To believe is to be in one mind about
accepting something as true to disbelieve is to
be in one mind about rejecting it. To doubt
is to waver between the two, to believe and
disbelieve at once and so be in two
minds. Os Guinness

Case Study in Doubt Thomas

After he had said this, he went on to tell them,
"Our friend Lazarus has fallen asleep but I am
going there to wake him up." His disciples
replied, "Lord, if he sleeps, he will get
better." Jesus had been speaking of his death,
but his disciples thought he meant natural sleep.
So then he told them plainly, "Lazarus is
dead, and for your sake I am glad I was not
there, so that you may believe. But let us go to
him." Then Thomas (called Didymus) said to the
rest of the disciples, "Let us also go, that we
may die with him. -John 1111-16

"Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in
God trust also in me. In my Father's house are
many rooms if it were not so, I would have told
you. I am going there to prepare a place for you.
And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will
come back and take you to be with me that you
also may be where I am. You know the way to the
place where I am going."  Thomas said to him,
"Lord, we don't know where you are going, so how
can we know the way?" -John 141-5
2. "I'm with You - where are we going?"

Now Thomas (called Didymus), one of the Twelve,
was not with the disciples when Jesus came. So
the other disciples told him, "We have seen the
Lord!" But he said to them, "Unless I see the
nail marks in his hands and put my finger where
the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I
will not believe it."   A week later his
disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was
with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus
came and stood among them and said, "Peace be
with you!"
3. "I'm with You - and only You."
11
Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here
see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into
my side. Stop doubting and believe." Thomas
said to him, "My Lord and my God!" Then Jesus
told him, "Because you have seen me, you have
believed blessed are those who have not seen and
yet have believed." -John 2024-29
