  1. Build the exact models using the appropriate
colored linking cubes. We use the linking cubes
so we can keep it together when picking it up and
moving it around. Remember the cubes cannot hang
    in space.
  2. Draw the design on Grid paper or Isometric Dot
    paper.
  3. Determine the volume, number of faces, number of
edges, and number of vertices of each model.

Find the block or blocks needed. Draw or trace
that shape and name it.
Reach Into The Bag
  1. three equilateral shapes
  2. three polygons having different numbers of sides
  3. a block with perpendicular sides
  4. a sample of all the regular shaped blocks
  5. a block with all acute angles
  6. a sample of all the blocks with two acute angles
  • a block with right angles
  • a block with no parallel sides
  • 10. a sample of all irregular shaped blocks
  • 11. a block with two acute angles and two obtuse
    angles
  • 12. use two different shaped blocks to make one
    hexagon
  • 13. all the blocks having two obtuse angles

Shapes with Line Symmetry have a line or a fold
that makes two reflecting parts .
Looking at symmetrical sides, each point will
have a corresponding reflection point on the
other side.

  • Name the location of the vertices and endpoint
that are labeled. Use ordered pairs.
  • A____________, B__________
  • C____________, D _________
  • E____________, F__________
  • G____________, H__________
  • I_____________, J__________
  • 2. Reflect the half-a-house across the y axis and
locate the vertices and endpoints in the
    reflected side.
  • The Y axis represents the Line of
    _____________________.
  • From the completed house find a triangle that is
obtuse and outline it in red.
  • Find a rectangle in the completed picture that is
congruent to one in the original picture and
    outline them both in green.
  • a. What is the perimeter of the completed door?
    ______
  • b. What is the area of the completed
    door? ________
  • c. Discuss how the perimeter and area of
the completed door compare to the perimeter and
area of the original door. ______________________

GeomeTree AREA PERIMETER 5th Real World
Problem The city is hiring an artist to make a
large holiday tree for display. It has been
decided to make a geometric tree divided into
squares and rectangles of red and green. It will
be symmetrical. Shapes 1, 4, 6, 8, 9 and 11 will
be green. The others will be red. 1. What is
the area of each rectangle? ___________ 2.
What is the total area of green?
___________ 3. What is the total area of red?
___________ 4. What is the perimeter of
the entire tree? ___________ 5. What percent of
the grid is colored? _______ 6. What percent is
white? ____________ 7. What percent is red?
__________ 8. What percent is green? ___________
