1
Battle of New Orleans
Kyle Lucas Coady Carter Brad Eddy
  • War of 1812

2
When
  • The battle took place on January 8, 1815 and was
the final major battle of the War of 1812.

3
Who
  • American forces, commanded by Major General
Andrew Jackson, defeated an invading British Army
intent on seizing New Orleans and the vast
territory the United States had acquired with the
    Louisiana Purchase.
  • Commanders and leaders Sir Alexander Cochrane,
Sir Edward M. Pakenham, John Keane, John Lambert,
Andrew Jackson, William Carroll, John Coffee,
    Jean Lafitte

4
Where
  • Five miles
  • (8 km) south of New Orleans on the grounds of
Chalmette Plantatio, modern day Gretna Louisiana.

5
What
  • Through the Louisiana Purchase, the Americans
acquired Louisiana from France. Britain attacked
Louisiana in hopes of taking it over, and having
strategic control over the heart of what is now
the United States of America. They failed.

6
Why
  • The Americans and General Andrew Jackson defeated
the British in New Orleans. The battle took place
after the peace treaty had been signed. This was
the final battle of the war of 1812, making this
battle arguably one of the most significant
battles in the war of 1812. After this battle the
central United States was at peace. Since the
Americans won, they had control over Louisiana,
and without this victory, the United States would
not be the same as we know it to be today. If
they had lost, Britain would be in control over
Louisiana (Modern day Central U.S.) Possibly
expanding Canadas territory, or acting as a
    British colony.

7
How
  • When the Americans won the battle of New Orleans,
the British left North America, having lost the
final battle. This gave more stability to the
United States because they now controlled all the
    territory from Mexico to Canada.
