KF1 The purposes of collecting relevant and
detailed information about performance
There are two stages when analysing performance
  • Collect general data from a match (full
    performance) situation, to highlight where in
    your performance the problem(s) lie. (WHAT?)
  • Adopt one of the following methods of analysis to
    collect specific data, which can be used to
    establish the cause of the problem(s). (WHY?)

  • In order to identify strengths and weaknesses
    within a game of badminton we use a Stroke
    Analysis sheet. This is known as initial data.
    (Why?)
  • In order to identify specific strengths and
    weaknesses within an individual technique we use
    a an observation schedule (movement analysis).
  • Our technique is compared to that of a model
    performer
  • Also you will be able to see where shots are
    played from and where they land using a scatter
    diagram. These are known as types of focused
    data. (Why?)

  • Gives a breakdown of different shots.
  • Establishes strengths and weaknesses within the
    whole game.
  • Re-use within your training programme.

Movement Analysis
  • Benefits of Using an Observation Schedule
  • Gives detailed information about a particular
    stroke
  • Identifies Strengths Weaknesses of a skill
  • Pinpoints specifically where weaknesses lies
  • Practice programme can be designed from the
    information received
  • You can use an observation schedule at the
    beginning, during and at the end of a training
    block to see if your technique has improved

Appropriateness of Data Collection
  • Video permanent record, which allows you to see
    your technique
  • Valid, reliable and easy to complete
  • Data gathered has highlighted how effective your
    strokes are
  • Strengths and weaknesses and the shots you played
    most, how consistent your shots were and what
    shots won you points
  • Highlights if you have a good range of shots
    (varied shot making)
  • Highlights which part of the skill is good and
    which parts are not.
  • Good source of positive feedback
  • Gives a good indication of what stage of learning
    you are at. (Cognitive, Associate and Autonomous)
  • Knowledge of consistency, it will highlight how
    effective you are in pressure situations
    (movement could be an issue)
  • You are able to tell if it is either your P.A.R
    that is the weakness.

KF3 Reviewing monitoring improvements made
through relevant training program
  • Repeat general and focused schedules at
    appropriate times during the practice programme
    to allow progress to be measured.
  • Keep a training diary of relevant information.
    It will include what drills you completed on a
    day to day basis. Furthermore you will write
    down how you felt during practices, do you feel
    if your technique is improving.
