Why do we have curriculum standards?

• teachers know what is to be taught
• children know what is to be learned
• parents and the public can determine how well the
  concepts are being learned
• guide efforts to measure student achievement
• promote educational equity for all state and
  nationwide(from SC Department of Education
  Parent Guides to Standards)
