There was no indication that careful
blood-pressure lowering treatment with the
angiotensin-receptor blocker candesartan is
beneficial in patients with acute stroke and
raised blood pressure. Analysis of functional

CONCLUSIONS

Acute anticoagulation of CES using
un-fractionated IV heparin was associated with a
low risk for early recurrence (1.2 N246)
without an increase in symptomatic hemorrhagic
conversion.
In our patients treated with anti-platelets, the
rate of early recurrence (4.8 N82) was
comparable to that observed in previous large
controlled CES clinical trials.
Data of this retrospective analysis support a
randomized trial of this treatment approach.
