ELPA Online Pilot Basic Information
  • MDE is interested in moving our testing programs
    online and clearly determining the best approach
  • Voluntary
  • Pilot conducted at same time as Spring 2011 ELPA
  • 6 week testing window (March 7 April 15)
  • Working with Questar Assessment, Inc. (current
    ELPA contractor)
  • 73 interested districts so far
  • Suburban, Urban, Rural
  • Regional spread (include UP)

  • Levels III (3-5), IV (6-8) and V (9-12)
  • Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking assessed
    through computer mode
  • Writing typed
  • Speaking teacher input screen for scores,
    one-on-one administration
  • Listening and Reading multiple choice
  • Content same as paper/pencil test for Spring 2011
  • Comparability study
  • Compare similar students who take the online mode
    vs paper/pencil mode
  • 8,000 - 10,000 students needed for theoretical
    sampling plan (will take as many as we can get)
