Balance
  • There are two kinds of Balance
  • Symmetrical or formal balance which is objects
    centered. If you fold the image in half each side
    will be equal
  • Asymmetrical or informal balance which is more
    objects on one side or off centered.

Unity
  • Oneness makes all the elements and principals
    work together to form a piece of art.
  • Also known as Harmony

If you can find all the other Principles in an
image, then the image is unified.

Contrast
  • The opposite or varied elements that make an
    image interesting.
  • Such as color, thick or thin lines, large or
    small shapes, rough or smooth texture,etc.

Emphasis
  • Drawing attention to the main object.
  • The focal point of the image is obvious
  • All elements like line, color, and shapes,
    direct your eye to the main point.

Repetition
  • repeating colors, lines, values,
  • etc, to create a pattern.
  • Can be planned or random
  • Repetition without some variation
  • can cause your image to become
  • monotonous

    through the piece.
