Key terms

• Native species - a species which is native to an
  ecosystem
• Alien species - a species not native to the
  ecosystem.
• Exotic species - a non-native species

When is an introduced species invasive?

• A species in an ecosystem is considered to be
  invasive when it is not native (alien) to the
  ecosystem and cause economic and/or environmental
  harm, or poses a threat to human health.
• All types of living organisms (plants, animals,
  bacteria, etc.) can be invasive.

Your project

• You will research an invasive species and give a
  news report or documentary using either Power
  Point, Photo Story or Movie Maker.

Requirements for project

• Must be 3-5 minutes in length.
• Choose an Invasive Species which effects Michigan
  ecosystems.
• Give background information.
• Explain how and why the species was introduced.
• How the species interacts in the ecosystem.
• Harmful effects on ecosystem, economy, peoples
  health.
• What is being done about it?
