2What is Dengue ?
- A viral diseases caused by bite of infected
female aedes mosquitoes. - It is caused by any one of four closely related
dengue viruses (DENV 1, DENV 2, DENV 3, or DENV
4).
3How the disease spreads
- The most important vector species is a mosquito
belonging to aedes genus. - When infected female mosquitoes feed on human
blood and the virus is transmitted to Human. - Their one meal often comes from 4-5 people.
- The virus also transmitted to her off spring via
eggs.
4How Do Aedes Mosquitoes Transmit Diseases...
Mosquito bites and sucks blood containing the
virus from an infected person.
And passes the virus to healthy people when it
bites them.
Virus is carried in its body.
5Aedes Mosquito- Features
- One distinct physical feature black and white
stripes on its body and legs. - Bites during the day.
- Lays its eggs in clean, stagnant water.

- Only the female Aedes mosquito feeds on blood.
This is because they need the protein found in
blood to produce eggs. Male mosquitoes feed only
on plant nectar. - On average, a female Aedes mosquito can lay about
300 eggs during her life span of 14 to 21 days.

The flight range for this vector is 100m from the
breeding sites, the reason why dengue or
chikuungunya cases are found in clusters in an
area

severe joint pain it brings

11Prevent Aedes from Breeding
12Change water in vases on alternate days.
13Remove water from flowerpot plates on alternate
days.
14Turn over all pails and water
storage containers.
15Cover bamboo pole holders when
not in use.
16Clear blockages and put Bti insecticide in roof
gutters monthly.
17Do not litter. Rubbish such as cups and bottles
can collect rain water and breed mosquitoes.
18Prevention
- Using repellent Citronella oil
- Fixing of Mosquitoes nets in Windows.
- Keeping door close during late evening and early
morning ( Dawn and dusk period) - Avoid dumping of clothes and reduce water
stagnation in your home and surrounding areas. - wear full sleeves clothes
- Treat your home some insecticidal spray. (
