DENGUE FEVER
Rakesh R Territory Sales Manager
2
What is Dengue ?
  • A viral diseases caused by bite of infected
    female aedes mosquitoes.
  • It is caused by any one of four closely related
dengue viruses (DENV 1, DENV 2, DENV 3, or DENV
    4).

3
How the disease spreads
  • The most important vector species is a mosquito
    belonging to aedes genus.
  • When infected female mosquitoes feed on human
blood and the virus is transmitted to Human.
  • Their one meal often comes from 4-5 people.
  • The virus also transmitted to her off spring via
    eggs.

4
How Do Aedes Mosquitoes Transmit Diseases...
Mosquito bites and sucks blood containing the
virus from an infected person.
And passes the virus to healthy people when it
bites them.
Virus is carried in its body.
5
Aedes Mosquito- Features
  • One distinct physical feature black and white
stripes on its body and legs.
  • Bites during the day.
  • Lays its eggs in clean, stagnant water.

6
Do you know
  • Only the female Aedes mosquito feeds on blood.
This is because they need the protein found in
blood to produce eggs. Male mosquitoes feed only
    on plant nectar.
  • On average, a female Aedes mosquito can lay about
300 eggs during her life span of 14 to 21 days.

7
Life cycle of the Aedes Mosquito
8
Source of breeding
The flight range for this vector is 100m from the
breeding sites, the reason why dengue or
chikuungunya cases are found in clusters in an
area
9
Symptoms of Dengue Fever
Dengue is also called as break bone fever for the
severe joint pain it brings
10
This is what you can do
11
Prevent Aedes from Breeding
12
Change water in vases on alternate days.
13
Remove water from flowerpot plates on alternate
days.
14
Turn over all pails and water
storage containers.
15
Cover bamboo pole holders when
not in use.
16
Clear blockages and put Bti insecticide in roof
gutters monthly.
17
Do not litter. Rubbish such as cups and bottles

18
Prevention
