A Primer on Ventilation
3Why Ventilate?
4Because your required to.
1. Your required to in order to satisfy building
codes.
2. And your required to in order to satisfy
shingle warranties.
5Why use ridge vents?
1. Ridge vents are considered to be the most
effective form of attic ventilation when combined
with soffit vents,
2. Ridge vents are considered the most
aesthetically appealing roof vents.
6 Why use Evolution ridge vents?
7Evolution
Evolution solves some problems and offers some
benefits that current ridge vent designs cannot.
8This is a fine example of a ridge vent
installation.
9- It is uniform, nailed well and runs the complete
length of the ridge.
10- It will function properly and preserves the
aesthetic value of an attractive roof.
11This quality installation is however the
exception.
12More installations look like this.
13This is a fairly typical installation.
14A closer view of a typical Installation.
15Many ridge vents are installed incorrectly.
16- Over nailed and not continuous. This is very
common.
17This job was run to the edge on top and not on
the lower section. It is also nailed poorly.
18Over nailed and uneven.
19Sometime its contractor error. Sometimes the
product is very difficult to install evenly.
20Not Good.
21Ridge vent installation has gone on like this for
years.
22 Evolution can solve this.
231. Evolutionary design approach.
24We have developed a ridge vent that doesnt show
on the front of the home.
25This is the Evolution ridge vent as seen from the
front of the home.
26This is the same vent from the back of the house.
27Ridge vents protruding on both sides can create
aesthetic and installation problems.
28Aesthetic problems because of over nailing
causing the vents to wave.
29Aesthetic problems because, as we have seen, the
vents must be run the full length of the ridge or
they are highly visible.
30Installation problems creating aesthetic problems
because if the vents are not cut into the
junction point they are highly visible.
31In fact this roof shows many of the problems.
1. Its over nailed
2. Its not run the full length.
3. It isnt run to a junction point.
32The Evolution can solve or diminish all of these
problems.
33The Evolution vents from one side of the home.
The choice can be made for aesthetic reasons, the
vent will function the same.
34There is only a flange on the other side of the
vent. So all that is seen from that side of the
installation is the ridge cap. Like there was no
vent at all.
35This is how the ridge cap looks with the flange
underneath it.
36You cant over nail the flange.
In fact you dont nail the flange.
Unless you want to.
37Why does the product have a flange?
1. The flange is a safety feature.
In the event there is a cap failure the flange
will help protect the home.
2. The flange may cover the slot opening from a
prior ridge vent application.
38The vent side looks just like any standard
application.
39Having a flange on one side solves several
aesthetic problems.
401. No over-nailing
2. If the product is not run the full length of
the ridge it is not as aesthetically detrimental
as typical ridge vents.
3. This also means that it doesnt always need to
be cut into a junction point because the vent
installation only impacts one side of the ridge.
41How would this home fare with Evolution?
42You could pick the side you wished the vent
exposed from.
You could pick for aesthetic reasons or
performance reasons.
43Perhaps these.
44The junction points would not be an issue.
45Better aesthetics.

Give the homeowner better aesthetics.

Contractor Benefits.
Lower labor costs.
48Only one slot to cut.
49Only one side to nail.
Only one side to nail.
50The ridge cap lines up with the vent opening on
one side of the vent.
51Then extends as far down on the other side as cap
width determines.
