Welcome to the Media Center!
  • We are very pleased to welcome you to the Leon
    High School Media Center.

    use information-is the keystone of lifelong
    learning.

Media Center Hours
  • 700 a.m. - 330 p.m.Monday Friday

Visiting the Media Center
  • ALWAYS sign in at the CIRCULATION DESK!
  • No passes needed before, after school or during
    lunch.
  • Official school pass or a pass in your agenda
    book is needed during school day. No scraps of
    paper accepted.

Back Library Doors
  • Back library doors are always locked except for a
    case of an emergency.
  • No students are permitted to cut through the
    media center.

Media Center Procedures
  • Always sign in the red notebook at Circulation
    Desk upon arrival. (whether you have a pass or
    not!)
  • Sign your name, time, date, and teacher who sent
    you.
  • Show us your pass leave it on the circulation
    desk.

Computer s
  • All students must sign up for a computer at the
    circulation desk, unless you are coming in with a
    class.
  • During all periods, teachers with classes have
    priority over everyone. (even if you have a pass
    from your teacher)
  • A clear purpose must be stated when you sign in.
    Show us your assignment at the desk.
  • Computers are used for school assignments and
    school related work.
  • E-mail is prohibited, if you need to use e-mail
    for a homework assignment always ask for
    permission from the media staff.
  • Usernames and passwords are not to be shared.
    This is a serious violation and will result in
    the disabling of accounts plus disciplinary
    action.

A Learning Environment
  • Our Media Center is the
    information hub for the
  • entire school.
  • A place for learning, providing students with
    resources and activities.
  • Therefore, you must have a purpose for coming to
    the Media Center.

Expected Behavior
  • NO FOOD OR DRINKS.
  • Use quiet voices
  • 3 to 4 students per table
  • Do NOT move chairs from the tables
  • Clean up your area (push in chairs, put books on
    carts, pick up trash)

Library Card
  • Use your student ID/library card each time to
    check out materials -- may check out up to 5
    books at a time.
  • 2 weeks circulation
  • Books may be renewed once
  • Overnight checkout for magazines --To check out
    you will need a library card.

Printing in the Lab Media Center
  • Each copy costs .10
  • Every student has a personal printing account.
  • Each semester you receive 1.00 to print (10 free
    prints)
  • You must put a minimum of 1.00 at a time up
    to 5.00
  • Preview before you push the print button!

Network, Internet Computer Use
  • Student must fill out an Internet Agreement form
    with parent/guardian signature to have a student
    user account
  • Computers are intended for research,
    communication with teachers, word processing and
    educational purposes only.

Logging On Making a Password
Log-on Last name, first initial, birth month,
birth day (4 numbers.) Example John Smith
would log on smithj0429 Password Must be at
least 7 characters and include 3 of the
following capital letters, lower case letters,
numbers, or a sign. Example Popeye1
Make your password easy to remember and using a
number at the front or back is helpful as you
will be asked to change it each nine weeks.

Internet Email Rules
  • ACCESS IS A PRIVILEDGE, NOT A RIGHT
  • Students are responsible for their own account
    and usage of the Internet PRIVILEDGE WILL BE
    REVOKED if caught on sites that are not deemed
    appropriate.
  • When using the Internet ,the following are NOT
    permitted
  • Chatting, instant messaging, e-mail, game
    sites, My Space, etc. shopping, sending or
    displaying offensive or sexually explicit text,
    graphics or pictures
  • If you need to E-mail a teacher
  • tell us when you sign in.

Copy Machine
  • Each copy costs .10 eachpay at the desk.Sign
    on the yellow clipboard the amount you have used
    in the copier after copying your material
  • E-mailing a document on the copier is free!
  • Please allow a teacher to use the copier first.
  • Remember You must pay for all prints it does
    not come out of your computer printing account.

  • You are responsible for cleaning the area you
    used and returning equipments to the proper
    location.

Computer Labs
  • 30 networked computers
  • Teachers sign up in Media Center to have classes
    come in to do research or word processing.
  • Students are not allowed
  • in labs by themselves.

  • Online resources are useful in locating
    materials. They can be accessed from school or
    home through the Leon HS homepage.
  • Destiny Online Material Catalog in the media
    center at home
  • every computer has access to
  • our entire collection!

    access this online tool and set up an e-mail
    account for this purpose.

    automatically, just by filling in the blanks.

  • Saving documents is so easy!
  • Go to File, then Save As
  • Choose My Documents
  • Your work will be accessible at any networked
    computer in the Leon School District!
  • Be smart back up your work on a disk or USB
    Flash Drive. You may E-mail it to yourself!
