• White Settlers moving across the Appalachian
  Mountains cause tension with the Indians.

• The Indians west of the Appalachian Mountains led
  by
• Pontiac fought a
• rebellion against
• the British.

• Pontiacs War was brief but convinced the British
  to pass the Proclamation of 1763. Which made it
  illegal for Americans to settle west of the
  Appalachian Mountains.

• To enforce the Proclamation, the British sent
  10,000 troops. These troops were stationed in
  cities along the Atlantic coast.

• Following the French and Indian War, Britain was
  deeply in debt.

• 1764, the British pass the Sugar Act (Tax on
  Molasses)
• 1765, the British pass the Stamp Act (Tax on
  legal documents)

• Riots broke out over the Stamp Act.

• Delegates from 9 colonies met in New York City in
  the Stamp Act Congress. They drew up a
  petition, but the English Parliament ignored it.

• The colonists then agreed to boycott British
  goods.
• In 1766, Parliament repealed the Stamp Act, but
  it reserved the right to pass taxes.

• Townshend Acts British tax on glass, paper,
  paint, lead, and tea.

• The writs of assistance gave British officials
  the right to search any ships cargo without
  reason.

• The Colonists again boycott British goods.
• The Sons of Liberty was formed by people like
  Samuel Adams.

• Daughters of Liberty was also formed Boycotted
  British cloth, encouraged sheep to be raised,
  wool to be made, spun and woven.
• It is better to wear a Homespun coat than lose
  our liberty

• To cut down on the cost of housing British
  soldiers the Quartering Act was passed. It
  forced the colonists to house British soldiers.

• March 5th, 1770
• The Boston Massacre resulted in 5 Americans
  killed by British Soldiers.

• Parliament repealed Quartering Act, and all the
  taxes from the Townshend Acts except the Tax on
  Tea.

  Correspondence. It was a letter writing campaign
  to stir up support to rally colonists.
