Title: MATCH PLAY - INDIVIDUAL

MATCH PLAY - INDIVIDUAL
2
What is the Match Play?
  • Match Play is used as the second stage to a
    championship competition, which in itself
consists of two further stages the Elimination
    Round, and the Finals Round.
  • The Olympic Round is shot at the 70m distance on
    122cm faces.
  • The Compound Round is shot at 50m on 80cm faces,
    6 ring targets.
  • During both rounds archers compete against one
another, head to head, according to a seeding
chart, where the winner of a match eliminates his
opponent, and proceeds to the next round.

What is the Match Play?
  • No extra time for equipment failure or unexpected
    medical problems.
  • In Match Play arrows rebounding, passing through
the butt or hanging from it will not stop the
    competition.
  • At the end of the match, athletes or their agents
must sign the score card. By doing so, they
indicate that they agree on the sum total, the
number of Xs and 10s and who is the winner.

Championships) 64 Athletes (Olympics), who are

rounds there may be two athletes per target butt,
however, during the 1/8th Elimination Round,
athletes will shoot on separate target butts.
    (World Championships)
  • Archers who have been assigned a bye, or archers
that have a forfeited match will advance to the
next round of the eliminations. At World
Championships they may practice on the practice
field or the unused portion of the competition
field. (Other competitions they may practice on
    the assigned targets)

    for cumulative score.

Match Play Finals Round Medals Matches
  • During the Finals Round Quarter Finals,
Semi-Finals and the Medals matches, alternate
shooting will be used, one athlete per target
    butt.
  • The position of the archers on the shooting line
will follow the positions indicated in the match
play charts, the highest placed archer in the
qualification round decides the order of
    shooting.
  • The recurve division shoot 5 ends of three arrows
using the set system of points ( first archer to
reach 6 set points wins), whilst the compound
division shoot 5 ends of three arrows using the
    cumulative points system.
  • Twenty (20) seconds is the time allowed for an
athlete to shoot one arrow when shooting
    alternately (including tie breaks).

proceed to the shooting line ( 2 beeps), 10
seconds later start shooting (one beep),
  • The first twenty (20) second period for the first
athlete commences, as soon as the first athlete
has shot his/her arrow and the score has been
posted, the countdown clock for the second archer
is started to indicate his/her 20 second period.
  • The athletes continue to alternate their shots
following the countdown clocks visual signal
until each athlete has shot his/her three arrows.

Match Play Finals Round Medals Matches

cumulative set score will shoot first the next

Elimination Round
  • In the event of a shoot-off during the
    elimination round, archers shoot simultaneously
on their assigned target, and have forty (40)
seconds to shoot their arrow. There will be a one
    arrow shoot-off.

closest to the centre wins. In the event of a
tie, another shoot-off will take place.
Successive shoot-offs will take place till a
    winner can be declared.

  • In the Match Play Finals, remotely operated score
boards at each target will show the arrow scores
as they are shot, the total score for each set
and the total set scores. There must be
provision for the athletes name and country.
